Dear Instructors,

As many of you know, Version 5.6.2 of our textbooks has been available since August 2024, with bug fixes, improvements, and updates based on feedback from students, teachers, and our data. If you haven’t had a chance to review the changes since last fall, here’s a quick overview as we are in the thick of Fall 2024:

For AB, ABC, and ABCD:

  • Chapter 2: Some of the longer pages have been split into more manageable sections (no additional content).
  • Chapters 3-4: Significant updates!
    • In Chapter 3, we now introduce horizontal boxplots aligned with histograms, and the pages about the Data Generating Process (DGP) have been moved to the end.
    • Chapter 4 has been reordered: starting with scatter plots, followed by jitter plots, box plots, and faceted histograms.

For ABC, ABCD, and XCD:

  • Chapters 10-12 (ABC and ABCD) & Chapters 4-6 (XCD): While the content remains unchanged, we’ve made page lengths more consistent and added a set of review questions to help students reinforce their learning.
  • Chapters 11 (ABC and ABCD) & Chapters 5 (XCD): We've added chi-square test of independence.

Additionally, we are steadily updating our Jupyter notebooks. You can find the latest versions on our Teaching Resources page or at the 5.6.2 Deepnote starter pack.

We hope these updates enhance your teaching experience and help your students engage more deeply with the material!

Cheers,

Ji & Jim
